We Got It From Our Mamas
From the hollers to the home front, resilience runs deep in motherhood, in West Virginia, and among the Mountain Leverage team, which is headquartered in Grafton, WV, the birthplace of Mother’s Day.
Mother’s Day became a holiday here in 1908, and the International Mother’s Day Shrine in Grafton – right down the street from Mountain Leverage – stands as a local beacon of love and honor for moms near and far.
This holiday is more than an annual gesture, though. Mother’s Day reminds us to embrace and uplift the character traits shared by many of the mother-figures who made a difference in our lives – traits like resilience, determination, resourcefulness, creativity, and advocacy.
Over a century later, this celebration of what makes motherhood impactful continues to inspire the Mountain Leverage team in how we engage with our customers, our partners, and our fellow team members.
Moms of Mountain Leverage: Real Stories from the Heart of Our Company
We have many amazing moms on the Mountain Leverage team! Here, some of them share their perspectives on how motherhood influences how they engage with our customers and partners, as well as how Mountain Leverage supports working moms.
What lessons from motherhood do you bring into your role at ML each day?
> One of the most important lessons I have learned is that lifting others up, championing them with kindness and understanding can make all the difference when approaching situations. Just as I cheer on my kids as their number one advocate with kindness and understanding, I bring that same mindset to Mountain Leverage. In my daily interactions with our customers and my colleagues, I strive to listen with empathy, cheering them on as their greatest champion. – Jaime, Customer Champion
> Motherhood has taught me how to prioritize what truly matters, juggle shifting demands with focus, and lead with calm even in chaos. I bring these strengths to ML every single day. – Kanchan, Quality Assurance Engineer
> Like a child needs nurturing, relationships also need care, kindness, grace, respect, patience and gratitude… and it must be intentional. Motherhood gave me perspective on life’s relationships, both personal and professional, and without an intentional effort to grow your relationships and foster a meaningful connection, you don’t reach the full potential of knowing and supporting one another. – Christy, Sales Lead
How do Mountain Leverage’s values reflect what you value as a mom?
> The Mountain Leverage P.A.C.T. is not just an acronym we recite—it’s a posture we live out. As a mom, those same values—Possibility, Accountability, Championship, and Trust—are what I try to embody with my children, too. Whether I’m advocating for our community, helping our teams solve tough problems, or tucking my girls in at night, the posture is the same: lead with empathy, champion others, and show up. – Heather, Executive Operations
> Our Core Concepts and P.A.C.T. embody all the things motherhood is about. Being a mom requires wearing many different hats warranted by the situation and environment. Also having the foresight to look forward to the needed outcome is so important. This is life. – Christy, Sales Lead
> One of our Core Concepts at ML is “Industrial Ingenuity,” which is so valuable to me as a mom of a toddler. I’m finding it takes lots of grit and persistence to get through the “threenager” year. – Katie, Voice Design Architect
Mother’s Day was founded right here in West Virginia—what does that local legacy mean to you, both personally and professionally?
> Growing up in Grafton, Mother’s Day was a big celebration each year. From a young age, I sang in choirs and attended teas to honor our mothers, but I didn’t truly understand the tireless dedication until I became a mother myself. I remember seeing the Mother’s Day statue in Grafton—a mom with children crawling all over her—and wondering why it was chosen. Until one day, I had my kids climbing on me, and then I understood that this was a true vision of motherhood. – Heidi, Legal Counsel
> Having lived in West Virginia for over 10 years, I feel a real connection to its legacy as the birthplace of Mother’s Day. It’s a beautiful state with a strong sense of community—and yes, some pretty great tax perks, too! I recently read it’s one of the most affordable states to live in, and my husband still jokes that “you can see his claw marks across the WV/PA state line” from when I made him move. There’s something special about working for a company that’s rooted in a place where honoring mothers is literally part of the history. – Nikki, Project Specialist
> Mother’s Day, founded right here in West Virginia, reminds me that nurturing others is powerful and that care is an important part of leadership. It’s meaningful to raise my daughters in a place with that legacy—and to be part of a company that honors it by making space for working moms to flourish. – Heather, Executive Operations
What makes Mountain Leverage a supportive place for working moms?
> At Mountain Leverage I know that I am valued as more than just a worker. The company wants me to flourish, not only in my job, but also as a mother and in all other facets of my life. – Katie, Voice Design Architect
> As a mom with a child who needs extra medical care and has frequent doctor’s appointments and tests, I’m incredibly grateful for the flexibility we have at ML. That kind of support doesn’t just make life easier—it makes it possible to be there for my family and still be fully present and committed in my role here. – Nikki, Project Specialist
> Being part of a company so aligned with my personal beliefs and values—one that emphasizes personal flourishing—means I get to define what work/life balance looks like for me and my family. My children know that Mom’s work is important because it impacts the lives of others, both near and far. They see that compassion, curiosity, and responsibility don’t stop at the door of our home or the threshold of our office—they carry through every conversation, every choice, every challenge. – Heather, Executive Operations
What would you want your children to know about the kind of work you do at Mountain Leverage?
> I’d tell Mishka, “Mommy works with people who lead with heart, support one another, and believe in always getting better.” I’m proud to show her that work can be meaningful, growth can be constant, and being part of a team that feels like home is something to strive for. – Kanchan, Quality Assurance Engineer
> I want my kids to see a mom who is caring, compassionate, and empathetic. While I am far from a perfect parent or colleague, one thing I want my kids to learn is the power of advocacy, not just for themselves, but for others. Advocacy with compassion, passion, and kindness is what true championship is all about, and that is something I strive to practice every day, both at home and at work. I am so thankful that I am the Customer Champion here at Mountain Leverage and also a Mama Champion at home to my kiddos. – Jaime, Customer Champion
